Staying on top of new messages is critical in Stitch, so we've built in ways for you to customize the experience to how you work.
Badges and bolding
Any time you receive a new message in a room, Stitch will bold that room name on the left sidebar. In addition, any time you are mentioned in a message, Stitch will add a red badge to the room name on the left sidebar, with a number indicating the count of unread mentions. Direct messages always count as mentions.
It's important to note that this is a separate system from desktop toast notifications and mobile push notifications. You cannot change the badges and bolding system within the app on the left sidebar, but you can change your preferences in each room for receiving desktop toast notifications and mobile push notifications.
Mobile and desktop notifications
Stitch can send you mobile push notifications and desktop toast notifications when you receive new messages. You can customize what types of messages you want to receive notifications for: all messages, only messages that mention your name, or no messages at all. This won't affect the badges and bolding system inside the app.
By default, we set every conversation to notify you of every message. If you need a little less distraction, you can adjust preferences on a room-by-room basis. We generally recommend that instead of muting notifications, you elect to receive notifications only for mentions of your name. This will allow you to continue to stay in the loop for the conversations and messages that are most important.
Desktop taskbar icon notifications
Taskbar/Dock icon notifications for Mac: You will get a red number on your taskbar icon for any message that mentions (@name) your name in a room, or for any direct message. You will see a red dot if you have messages that are unread in a room that do not mention your name.
Taskbar icon notifications for Windows: You will get a red number on your task bar icon for any message that mentions (@name) your name in a room, or for any direct message. The icon in your taskbar will flash for any new message.
Sometimes you can't check your desktop device, or you don't have our mobile app installed.
In that case, you can elect to receive email notifications summarizing unread messages. You can choose to receive these emails every 15 minutes, once an hour or once a day. Note that you will only receive an email if you have an unread message(s).
